ECVET (European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training) aims to facilitate the validation, recognition and accumulation of achievements in vocational education and training, in formal, informal and non-formal learning acquired during a stay in another country or in different situations.

It is a system allowing for the accumulation and transfer of credits gained through the recognition of learning outcomes in vocational education and training (VET) across Europe. ECVET is regulated by European legislation, but institutions’ participation is voluntary and national protocols are respected.

The aim of ECVET is to facilitate the mobility of the workforce in VET across Europe. It has been tested in pilot projects across the European Union with the intention of extending its application gradually to a wider range of VET qualifications, either existing or new.

It has the advantage to offer students the possibility to plan their learning process according to their needs and life changes and increases the employability of VET learners in the European Union. According to this approach, learners can accumulate the required learning outcomes (transformed in credits) for a given qualification over time, in different countries or in different situations.
